My 2022 birthday

I turned 29 again this year and it was a great day! Shecklet #4 made me breakfast, Caribou treated me to a free beverage, and three of my kids joined me for a little thrift store shopping. (We found some good deals, which is always fun.) Dinner was takeout from a local Mexican restaurant and we had a Bundt cake for dessert. It was a good day. My heart is full.

Oh, and I was gifted new mats for my truck, which I am very excited about. (Tell me you’re middle-aged without telling me your age.) My previous ones had definitely seen better days – and had worn through!

And yes, Shecklet #2 finally passed me up. I’m officially the fourth tallest in the family. This was how things looked about a year ago.

HBD Kari 2022

We gathered in Hastings to celebrate Kari’s birthday (a day early.) The weather was gorgeous, so we spent most of the evening outside. The Shecklets enjoyed seeing their little cousins ❤️

Happy birth day, Astrid! 2022

Two years since we said goodbye. It feels like yesterday and forever ago all at the same time. A friend posted this quote from St. Oscar Romero on social media and felt it was a accurate description for what I often feel when I shed tears about not having Astrid physically present with us.

We visited the cemetery tonight after dinner and brought flowers and mini cupcakes to celebrate our sweet little saint. Happy Birth Day, Astrid! We love and miss you so much!

HBD #1 – You’re 16!

I’m sure I say this with every birthday the kids have. How can they be [insert number here] years old?!? Well I’m finding myself saying those words today. How can Shecklet #1 be 16?!? And what an awesome day to have a birthday – on his Confirmation day!

He has had a great first year of high school, has been part of politics club, is an assistant catechist for a 3rd grade class at church, helps with video streaming volunteer at mass, and is an ultimate frisbee player on a high school team. Jake and I are excited to see what the coming year has in store for him.

Airsoft Ready

A surprise package arrived for Shecklet #2 from one of Jake’s cousins. This kid was pretty excited to find out what was inside!

Bad Axe

Part of Shecklet #2’s birthday present from Aunt Larissa was a trip to Bad Axe for some axe throwing. They reserved a lane that held enough people to bring Grandpa Dave, Jake, and Shecklet #1 along, too. It looked like a lot of fun. I want to join them next time!

HBD #14 to Shecklet #2

Shecklet #2 celebrated his birthday mid-week this year. His dinner request was homemade mac-n-cheese and key lime pie for dessert (which was not homemade.)

He received some of his favorite snacks, (including some from one of his science teacher & her daughter,) a new pillow, and a book with the photos and blog content his Aunt Bri wrote after his trip to Lake Tahoe last summer. (I was pretty pleased with how it turned out.)

To top things off, his godmother stopped by to greet him and deliver a gift.

I might repost this blog post each year, while adding to the photo collage of the many faces of this kid. It’s just too much fun to not share again!

To continue his celebration, he hung out with a few of his friends on the 26th. They had pizza, played video games, ping pong, and Kids Against Maturity (a gift from one of his buddies.) 14 seems to be off to a lively start for him!

HBD #9 to #4! 🎉

Our Shecklet #4 had her final single-digit birthday today! She requested mini hamburgers on Hawaiian rolls. We had a few family members over to celebrate with us on the 19th and then she skied on her actual birthday. Year #9 seems to be off to a great start!

Friends 💗

We got to celebrate my godson’s birthday this afternoon. I didn’t get a picture with him this time, but I DID get one with his mom!
